The couse's history

The Medicine Course of the Regional Jataí of the Federal University of Goiás started its activities on August 11, 2014, having been elaborated from the Proposal for Expansion of Medical Teaching Vacancies in the Federal Institutions of Higher Education in Brazil, in a joint action of the Ministries Education and Health.

The adopted pedagogical project aims at the articulation between teaching, research and extension / assistance, guaranteeing a critical and reflective learning, which leads to the construction of the medical profile with an ethical posture, technical domain and humanistic vision. It promotes the understanding of the complexity of the patients' lives, families and communities, considering biopsychosocial aspects. It also promotes research projects, socializing the knowledge produced.
The Course Curriculum is centered on the student, based on problems and oriented to the community, according to modules designed to promote the integration of contents and to boost the development of professional skills and attitudes considering the insertion of the student in the Health Services throughout the Course , from the very first semester.
The main feature of this medical course is the use of active teaching methodologies, providing training compatible with different levels of health care and ensuring technical, scientific and humanistic knowledge that allows professionals to identify health issues both in individuals as well as their communities, and enables active participation in their solution. In order to achieve this goal, the course focus on Health and Education in the Community: a community-based medical education. The axes of development are: Clinical (Student-Patient); Institutional (Academy-Student-Service); Social (Community-Student-Government); Personal (Personal principles-Student-Professional practice).
