The undergraduate course
From the Normative Ordinance No. 15 of July 22, 2013, of the Ministry of Education, the National Policy for the Expansion of Medical Schools of Federal Institutions of Higher Education was created, under the “Mais Médicos” Program, created by Law No. 12,871 From October 22, 2013, the program's actions provide for the creation of new medical courses and the expansion of vacancies in existing courses in order to fill the deficit of these professionals in our country.
The states contemplated were Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia. The program provides for the creation of 11,447 vacancies in medical schools by 2017 with a focus on better distribution of the supply of professionals in the country, and in the regions where there is a need to expand the training of doctors.
Initially vacancies were opened at the following institutions: Federal University of Goiás (UFG), in Jataí (GO); Federal University of Vales do Jequitinhonha and Mucuri, in Teófilo Otoni (MG); and Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, in Três Lagoas (MS).
